How to Make a Paper Snowflake
Now, you don’t have to wait for winter to see snowflakes. You can now create as many paper snowflakes as you can to have a good and enjoyable experience while immersing yourself with the snowflakes that you’ve just made. It’s an ideal craft for Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, or any celebrations particularly for Christmas Day.
Take a closer look! Snowflakes look exactly pixie dust! They’re beautiful indeed, but their beauty lasts no longer. It just lasts a minute, how pity! Then they melt away, and they’ve completely gone from your sight.
Snowflakes are actually formed within clouds high up the sky. The clouds, which are made up of many tiny droplets of water are very cold and thus the water droplets freeze into a form of tiny bits of ice called ice crystals.
When the air is wetter, the snowflakes are larger and they form lacy stars with sharp tips. In contrast to that, in drier air, they may be shaped into thin needles or flat plates.
Do you know that no two snowflakes are ever the same? But, almost all snowflakes have six corners and six sides. There may be as many as 635 million snowflakes in a cubic of snow.
Some of the snowflakes can take 2 hours to reach the ground. The heaviest snowflakes may even fall at one mile per hour.
Once snowflakes reach the ground, they change shape by melting away or by becoming smooth bits of ice. So, if you want to capture the beauty of the snowflakes, you need to look them closely and quickly! Wow, the snowflakes feel as though they’re just like a soft pillow! But before I can sleep on them, they’ve gone elsewhere…whew!
Judy Sheldon once wrote on a complete article on snowflakes (including steps and photos on how to make a beautiful snowflake), snowflakes that don’t melt. You can check her out, thanks.
Here I’ll teach you how to fold a paper snowflake that won’t melt away!

Things you need:

Method one:
Step one

Prepare one square sheet of paper.
Step two

Fold it in half on the diagonal, so you’ve a triangle.
Step three

Fold the paper in half again, and you get a smaller triangle.
Step four

Now, fold the smaller triangle in thirds. Bring the left side over, so that the edge is two-thirds of the way to the right. Fold it downward.
Step five

Then fold the right side over the left.
Step six

Turn the paper.
Step seven

Trim the unfolded edge of the paper straight across.
Step eight

Draw any design you want with a pencil on the paper.
Step nine

Cut a design. Be sure to leave some of the folded sides uncut.
Step ten

Unfold the paper carefully. Congrats! Your paper snowflake is ready!
You can now make some more attractive paper snowflakes! All you need to do is to draw any pattern you like on the paper. By cutting different patterns, you can give each snowflake its own design.
Here’s what you do:
For each snowflake below, repeat steps 1-7. Begin with step 8 by drawing a design as attached together with each paper snowflake shown below. Then, cut a design. Be sure to leave some of the folded sides uncut. Good luck!

Method two:
Step one

Prepare one square sheet of paper (slightly larger than paper used in method one).
Step two

Fold it in half on the diagonal, so you’ve a triangle.
Step three

Fold the paper in half again, and you get a smaller triangle.
Step four

Then fold the paper in two again. You should now have a smaller triangle of paper.
Step five

Draw any design you want with a pencil on the paper.
Step six

Cut a design. Be sure to leave some of the folded sides uncut.
Step seven

Unfold the paper carefully. Congrats! Your paper snowflake is ready!

Chan, you have so many beautiful designs. I will have to add this how-to to mine, so I can make more elaborate snow flakes. I like the ones made out of foil or white paper best. You can spray paint them with canned “snow” too.
Very cool piece. They let us make paper snowflakes at work last year and sadly all of mine came out looking stupid.
Excellent, I use to make snowflakes with my children when they were young. We would add glitter to them to make them sparkle. They really enjoyed it. You brought back wonderful memories for me. I think I will do this with my grandchild, thanks!
A great class with an excellent teacher, and i’ve learned a lot. Thanks Chan for the wonderful ideas.
